Fourteen trains and a wedding

IMG_2917

Three months ago¬†we had a run-in with the fantastical confustication that is Indian Rail. We needed to leave lovely Goa, to get to Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) to catch our flight home to Perth for my brother’s wedding. We HAD to catch that flight. It landed only 34 hours before they were to walk down the aisle!

However, despite there being daily trains from Magdaon in Goa, to Trichy, and other daily trains via Kochi, and yet more trains via Bangalore, not single one had room for us, not even in first class (which we wouldn’t usually shell out for)

ENTER the waitlist system. this is what happened!

Penang – same same but different

Well, we are right back where we started, nearly a year ago.

Last November, we arrived in Penang after a few quick days of therapy appointments for Sparky in Singapore. Our train from KL was cancelled and we got an overpriced bus that landed us in no mans land at the mercy of extortionate taxi drivers x2.

We had shaved heads and were travel greenies. We stayed in a backpackers for $55 a night and didn’t know where to go for breakfast. We paid too much for a T-shirt that ended up shrinking the first time we washed it. We were still using our baby porta cot and sterilizing water.

We were in recovery from the madness of packing up our home and stuff and quitting work and leaving school.

but this time it was really different. Have a look!

Traveling with Grandma

We’ve had my Mum travel with us for 2 1/2 weeks, starting in Ulaanbaatar, and flying out of Shanghai. Its the third time she has joined us on our travels, and she is now officially welcome anytime.

My daughter Sparky volunteered to tell you all about it. (Sparky has Cerebral Palsy and is non-verbal. She told this story using her PODD, a book of organized symbols she scans with her eyes)

Travelling with Grandma – by Sparky

Grandma is great fun and wonderful. I think I’m lucky and traveling with her is awesome.¬†Grandma and I enjoy painting and standing together. I enjoy having many cuddles with Grandma.
