It couldn’t be more different to our time in China
We flew into Kochi, Kerela in the beautiful south of India, and got right down to work on the important things. Here’s what we did:
Taught the baby to drink chai
Ate a LOT of thosai
Actually we ate breakfast everyday at this amazing thosai and chai shop. So good! Sometimes we went back for dinner too! Here is our thosai man.
We studied the Chinese fishing nets and copied the men throwing their nets in at sunset.
Tintin and Snowy raced around while Chris had so much fun capturing the vibrant yet decaying town of Port Kochi.
We gawped at the biggest elephant we’ve ever seen. He was chained, unhappy and in a hospital for mad elephants.
Rode in a tuk tuk, wheelchair on the roof. Is there anything this great chair can’t do?
Saw gaudy colourful paints trucks

We met heaps of friendly kids and talked with them…in English!!!
Took pictures and talked shop with all the other people taking pictures! There were more Canon cameras than fishermen at the riverside for sunset!!
We bought the baby (who knows no toys) a toy tuk tuk.
Chris decided in the name of being culturally appropriate, that he needed a Merv Hughes moustache. I cannot begin to describe how absolutely awful he looked. Meena cried. I once read a book called The Submissive Wife, all about letting your husband be a grown up, and buy his own jocks and dress himself and all that. I defy even the author of that book to submit to a moustache like this. No chance! I know how to pick my fights! I picked, I fought and I won.
And of course, we made friends with the friendliest people ever, thanks to this little boy.
I realised a few things have change since I was here 16 years ago. Now they have these!! :
